Cbus, the $47 billion industry fund for the construction, building and allied industries, has announced the appointment of Kara Keys as a member-representative director.

Commenting on her appointment, Cbus chair, Steve Bracks, said: "Kara Keys is a highly respected leader, a tireless and passionate advocate for workers and strong replacement for Ged Kearney on the board."

Keys, who is a descendant of the Yiman and Gangulu peoples of central Queensland, has worked in strategic roles at the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) since 2013, including as ACTU Indigenous officer and national campaign coordinator.

In welcoming Keys, and fellow new director, Ray Sputore, who will serve as an employer-representative, Bracks said that he "looks forward to harnessing their diverse experience".

Keys has also been appointed to Cbus' investment committee, while Sputore has been appointed to the fund's audit & risk committee and member employer services committee.

Both commenced their terms in July 2018.
