Cbus, the $47 billion industry fund for the construction, building and allied industries, has announced the appointment of Ray Sputore as an employer-representative director, replacing Peter Smith.

Commenting on his appointment, Cbus chair, Steve Bracks, said: "Ray Sputore has a well earned reputation for leadership at the highest levels of the construction industry and is a strong voice for the business community both in Western Australia and nationally."

Sputore, who was nominated by Master Builders Australia, serves as executive manager of strategy & pre-contracts at Decmil Group Limited, having joined the firm in 2011. Prior to this, he held various senior leadership roles at Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd and Transfield Construction Pty Ltd.

He is also currently the president and chair of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA, and a director of both the Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the WA Government State Training Board.

In welcoming Sputore, and fellow new director, Kara Keys, who will serve as a member-representative, Bracks said that he "looks forward to harnessing their diverse experience".

Sputore has also been appointed to Cbus' audit & risk committee and member employer services committee, while Keys has been appointed to the fund's investment committee.

Both commenced their terms in July 2018.
