Cbus Super has announced the appointment of Brett Chatfield to the newly-created role of deputy chief investment officer.

Chatfield joined the now-$50 billion fund in 2013 as head of public markets and, since then, has overseen the implementation of new internal investment strategies as well as the fund's external manager portfolio for public markets.

In his new role, in which he will retain his previous portfolio responsibilities, Chatfield will focus on "the next stage of the fund's investment strategy evolution, including the rollout of additional internal strategies," Cbus said.

Cbus chief executive officer David Atkin said of Chatfield's appointment: "[Brett's] leadership of public markets has been invaluable to the fund's ambitious internalisation agenda and his appointment as deputy CIO is well deserved."

Cbus chief investment officer Kristian Fok added: "Over the last six and half years Brett has demonstrated his abilities as a broad thinker and investment leader. I'm excited for Brett to have the opportunity to direct his immense talent to this important role."
