Cbus Super has welcomed Stephen Monnier as its new head of stewardship within the responsible investment team.

The $98 billion industry fund for construction workers said Monnier brings significant experience to Cbus as a business leader with extensive experience in investment stewardship, sustainable investment, and ESG integration.

The recruit spent 12 years at BlackRock, most recently as head of sustainable and transition solutions for Australasia.

Other posts at the world's largest asset manager include director of investment stewardship in the UK and director of operational risk.

During his career, Monnier has held several risk management roles.

He served as a senior business manager and senior risk manager at BNY Mellon as well as head of operation risk at one of the bank's subsidiaries.

Moreover, he was a deal manager for project and structured finance at Macquarie Bank and a senior business analyst at Bankers Trust.

Cbus head of responsible investment Ros McKay welcomed the appointment.

'With Cbus' strong focus on responsible investment, Stephen brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Cbus Super and will be a valuable addition to the responsible investment team in the role of head of stewardship," she said.

Further, McKay noted that Monnier's background in risk management adds a unique set of skills and perspectives.
