Aviva recruits APAC chief

Aviva Investors, the global asset management arm of Aviva plc, has appointed Richard Surrency head of Asia Pacific.

Based in Singapore, Surrency will report to Scott Callander, the global head of distribution at Aviva Investors.

Surrency joins from Franklin Templeton, where he led its private markets and alternatives business in Asia, partnering with the alternative investment, product and distribution teams to generate client solutions.

He was also a member of Franklin Templeton's APAC Executive Committee.

Before that, he was chief executive of Algebris Investments Asia for seven years, where he headed up capital strategy and also ran the firm's Middle East growth strategy.

Earlier, he held senior APAC roles at Morgan Stanley in international equities and  BNY Mellon, where he ran sales.

"Richard brings over 20 years of experience, exceptional leadership skills and strong relationships with major Asian institutions, including SWFs, pension funds, insurers and GFIs, said Callander.

"His wealth of experience and expertise will be invaluable in this critical role given the significance, scale and potential growth opportunities."
