AustralianSuper has confirmed the appointment of Shane Kelly as head of investment operations.

Kelly joins the $260 billion superannuation fund from Commonwealth Bank, where he took on a similar role for six years.

Before working at CBA, he spent 11 years with JP Morgan, most recently as head of fund services operations for the Asia Pacific.

He took a two-year break halfway through that time and worked for UBS Investment Bank as head of market and regulatory change for two years.

In a LinkedIn post, Kelly said he was excited to be joining AustralianSuper and looked forward to playing a part in developing the super fund's 2030 strategy.

"I have enjoyed my six years at Commonwealth Bank leading great teams that delivered for our customers every day for ComSec, the Institutional Bank and Business Bank.

"It was a pleasure working with so many wonderful people, and I leave having grown personally and professionally and made some lifelong friends.

Meanwhile, Ben Thompson is taking on a new role at AustralianSuper as business development manager.

During his six years with the super fund, he has worked as an education manager and a financial planner.

Earlier, he worked as a financial planner with Suncorp Group, AMP Financial Planning and Commonwealth Financial Planning.

AustalianSuper has made a string of other appointments including Haylee Cooper, who joins as corporate legal counsel at the fund's London office and Jaclyn Ramsay, who has been recruited as a change manager, joining from the ANZ.

Additionally, Vanessa Giordano has been appointed as a facilities and property lead.
