Australian Unity has appointed Desmond Ham as business development manager for Western Australia, South Australia, and the Northern Territory.

In the role, Ham will work with financial advisers and dealer groups to highlight the role that investment bonds, funeral bonds, and education savings plans play in supporting clients' financial wellbeing.

Ham joins from AIA's financial advice business where he was a financial planner.

Previously, he spent nine years in the same role with Commonwealth Financial Planning.

Before switching careers, Ham held relationship management roles at Westpac Bank and DBS Bank Limited.

Ham's appointment will ensure financial advisers and dealer groups receive first-class support from an experienced financial planner well-versed on how investment bonds can form a key part of a portfolio to support clients' financial wellbeing." Said Greg Bird, head of strategy and distribution at Australian Unity's Life and Super business.

Ham replaces Ryan Francis who will work as a commercial manager across the broader life and super business.
