Australian Retirement Trust's latest recruit is a chemical engineer turned management consultant.

The country's second-largest superannuation fund has confirmed that Gabby Butera has joined as an associate portfolio manager with the infrastructure team.

Butera landed from Boston Consulting Group, where she covered the renewable energy, energy retail, software, technology and healthcare sectors.

Before that, she spent five years with Arup as a process engineer in the Melbourne environment and resources team.

At the engineering group, Butera was recognised for her research into emerging pollutants in the ground and drinking water.

In 2017 she won an Australian Water Association award for a study on key contaminates that had been largely unaddressed at the time.

Seeking alternative solutions, she identified seven unique treatments to help to filter out these contaminates.

Butera earlier worked for the ASG Group as a management and CO2CRC on a carbon capture and storage research project.
