Former Allianz Australia chief investment officer, Anthony Michael, has joined the Altius Asset Management investment advisory committee as he looks to take on more similar type roles.

"I made a decision to leave Allianz Insurance last year, in July, and I took some time off. I did the Company Directors Course. And a few other things, and my goal was to broaden my work activities to be involved in a number of different advisory roles, investment committees, not for profits etc, rather than working full time for one organization, doing insurance, asset management, as I've done for 35 years plus," he told Industry Moves.

He is also looking at mentoring and is currently speaking to a university about contributing towards their finance program.

"So, there's a couple of different things I'm looking at doing this to mix up my, the next 10 years, if you will."

Michael started in financial services as a senior analyst at the ASX in 1990 and his current approach to work is not dissimilar to that of many finance professionals looking to transition gradually to retirement but still use their diverse experience, expertise and knowledge for the betterment of the industry.

Michael worked with the founders of Altius previously at Deutsche Asset Management who approached him when they noticed he'd left Allianz.

Altius is an Australian cash and fixed interest securities asset manager.

Michael says inflation is proving one of the biggest challenges for fixed income markets that they have faced in a while.

"I think investors have been trying to second guess when we'd see the end of the tightening cycle, when the easing cycle would begin. And we've seen that delayed on a number of occasions over previous quarters," he says.

"So, we've been trying to be a little bit more flexible in thinking about the higher levels above for 4 the RBA, and where we might get to in that cycle."
