Position: Non-Executive Director

AMP has appointed former Bendigo Bank executive Michael Hirst to its board.

Hirst held several roles with Bendigo and Adelaide Bank during his more than 17 years with the organisation including chief executive and managing director. Hirst retired from Bendigo and Adelaide Bank in mid-2018.

Since leaving executive life, Hirst has held several directorships with a diverse set of organisations including health insurance provider GMHBA. He's also been a board member of Racing Victoria since 2015 and has been deputy chair since 2016. He's also been a director of listed investment company AMCIL, chairing the audit committee.

More recently, Hirst was a commissioner on the federal government's COVID-19 Commission Advisory Board and has been deputy chair of the Australian Bankers Association.

AMP chair Debra Hazelton said Hirst's background in banking during a period of growth and change in regulations will be valuable for AMP. "His detailed knowledge of Australia's retail banking and wealth environment, as well as his broad sector experience as a non-executive director, including innovative fintech start-ups and across government, will be invaluable".

Hirst will commence on 1 July.
