Allianz Australia has appointed Shez Ford as chief general manager of the consumer division, effective August 2023.

In this role, Ford will lead Allianz's distribution push through its direct and intermediated channels and provide marketing, digital and consumer insights.

She replaces Mick Winter, who decided to quit the role after 20 years with the life insurer.

Ford joins from the Commonwealth Bank, where she recently held the twin positions of the executive general manager of wealth and private and executive general manager of advice and insurance.

Before working at the country's largest lender, she spent several years at ANZ Wealth, including as head of insurance operations.

She previously held various leadership positions with ING Australia thereby accumulating a wealth of experience in insurance and financial services over the course of her career.

"As well as her deep insurance industry experience, Shez understands how to continually deliver great customer outcomes, driven by data-led insights and digital innovation," said Allianz Australia managing director Richard Feledy.

"This expertise is highly relevant as we continue to grow and evolve our business. I look forward to working closely with Shez to deliver our strategic ambitions."

Commenting on Winter's departure, Feledy acknowledged his outstanding leadership, particularly since he stepped into the newly created role of chief general manager of consumer products in early 2021.

" I will miss Mick's exceptional leadership and considered perspective and judgement. I wish him all the very best for the future."

In response to her appointment, Ford said Allianz's commitment to securing the best outcomes for its customers and employees aligns very closely with her own values. I'm very excited about this opportunity to lead the consumer team and contribute positively to Allianz and the insurance industry overall."
