Alexander Funds Management has named co-founder Rachel Shirley as its new chief executive.

The appointment will allow co-founder Chris Black to focus solely on managing the firm's two credit funds and a growing investment team.

The newly created role of chief executive reflects the growth of the credit fund manager, fund, and the strategic decision to separate the corporate side of the business from the investment side.

As a co-founder of the business, Shirley has been responsible for leading Alexander's growth strategy from day one and has overseen the implementation of new technology and innovations.

As the business evolves, she will drive broader business initiatives and the strategic directions set by the board.

Before being appointed to lead the firm, Shirley had run operations - a role she held from the firm's inception.

She joined Alexander Funds in 2008 after stints at Nomura, Lehman Brothers, and Grange Securities.

"This appointment will ensure that the best interests of investors continue to be served as the business develops," said executive chair Tim Cox.

"There are a lot of exciting developments in the pipeline, and I'm excited to lead the team through this period of growth," added Shirley.

Hiring a chief executive is the latest in a series of new appointments for the credit fund manager, following the appointment of Chris Inifer as distribution head in March 2021 and Matt Oldham as head of data analytics in July 2021.

Inifer joined from Allan Gray and Oldham from Blue Orbit.
