Stephen Fang, former head of global restructuring for Aberdeen Standard, has left the organisation to found independent investment and management consultancy Bishop & Fang.
He is joined by former Aberdeen Standard Investments colleague Nick Bishop as co-founder.
Fang joined Aberdeen in 2012 and worked with global teams on domestic bond transactions, leveraged loan deals, and M&A. A lawyer by training, Fang has held legal roles with a variety of firms in Sydney, London, and Shanghai.
Bishop says the firm has found unique opportunities in the COVID business climate. "We can help overseas lenders that want on ground due diligence capability when they can't travel and kick the tyres figuratively and literally...For example Canadian, US [like CalSTRS or CalPERS], Dutch pension funds or GIC [Singapore sovereign wealth fund], if they have commercial real estate or infrastructure portfolio assets or prospects, where we can take instructions from those funds and be their eyes and ears."
